JOB OPPORTUNITY – DEPUTY VICE-CHANCELLOR

The Zambian Open University is an institution of high standing both locally and internationally, whose vision is “to be an internationally recognized Open University providing quality education through distance learning”. The University was established in 2005 and started with 369 students and now has 6000 students. The University wishes to recruit a suitably qualified individual to fill the position of Deputy Vice-Chancellor

DEPUTY VICE-CHANCELLOR 

a) Job Purpose: The Deputy Vice-Chancellor position reports to the Vice Chancellor. The purpose of this job is to provide, together with the Vice-Chancellor, leadership, planning, implementing, monitoring and controlling of institutional activities.

b) Main Accountabilities

The duties of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor include:

  • Coordination of academic, consultancy and research activities of the University;
  • Directing and monitoring the implementation of the University Strategic Plan;
  • Coordination of staff Development Programmes;
  • Together with the Vice Chancellor, liaise and provide linkages with the private sector in resource mobilization;
  • Performing duties of the office of the Vice-Chancellor in his/her absence; and
  • Performing any other duties as maybe assigned by the Vice-Chancellor.
  • c) QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Must have an earned doctorate;
  • Must have academic leadership qualities and a good record of personal achievement in both teaching and research;
  • Demonstrated analytical, administrative and finance management abilities;
  • Must have five (5) years experience at senior management level in a university or similar institution;
  • Must have experience in resource mobilization; and
  • Possession of an MBA or professional qualification will be an added advantage.
  • d) ATTRIBUTES
  • Must possess high levels of personal and professional integrity and vision;
  • Must possess good leadership and interpersonal skills, including the ability to inspire, motivate colleagues and enjoy being part of a strong management team;
  • Must possess high level oral and written communication skills;
  • Must be reliable, self confident and with humility;
  • Must be self-motivated and a team player;
  • Must be flexible, receptive to change and able to manage change;
  • Must be computer literate;
  • Must have problem solving and decision making skills; and
  • Must be a strategic thinker.
  • e) REMUNERATION
  • The University offers a competitive remuneration package to the individual appointed to this position.
  • f) TENURE

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor is appointed for a period of three (3) years renewable depending on performance.
