MISSION: To provide effective, equitable and sustainable access to library services and comprehensive information resources in any format for the advancement of education and research at Zambian Open University.

The University library is located at former nursing council of Zambia on Ben Bella Road, South-End, next to Churches association of Zambia, CHAZ House, Lusaka.  It has a collection of more than 6,000 books.  Except for Internet services to which a cost/charge for usage is embedded in the tuition fees, use of the library is exclusively for registered ZAOU students and ZAOU academic and non-academic staff. Registered students and staff are not required to pay for membership but, must always produce a ZAOU University student/staff identification card in order to access the services. The library provides access to electronic resources such as, electronic journals, electronic articles, and electronic and book reviews in all courses.

The University library is registered member of the Zambia Library Consortium. ZAOU library also enjoys a good relationship with the American Information Centre (AIC) whose services have been made available to ZAOU students and staff free of charge. ZAOU library has also received book donations from AIC, The British Council, UNZA, academic staff, and Some ZAOU students have also donated books to the University.


The Library is open during week days from 08:00 hours to 19:00 hours except Fridays when it close at 17: 00hrs.
