Information and Communications Technology

The new strategic plan places high emphasis on the use of information technology in the delivery of training and learner support at Zambian Open University. The University has also put in place a new ICT policy to support the use of information technologies facilities and services. Management has realised that enhanced IT service delivery can only be effectively implemented through provision of good ICT governance and management.

The University has embarked on an aggressive expansion programme which will include provision of free WiFi internet access in all regional offices. Each regional office will also have a modern computer Laboratory and online library accessible by all registered students.

A new look Moodle e-Learning platform will be available in the first quarter of 2015 which students will use to access course modules, interact with lecturers through chart rooms, submit and access market assignments among many other features. Registered students through a single sign-on will be able to have online access to examinations results, view financial statements and student records. In order to make information easily accessible, the University is upgrading its website to include more information on programs offered by the university, details on University regulations and easy access and interaction with administration and lecturing staff.

The goal of the ICT directorate in 2016 is to enhance IT service delivery and provide a new experience to our learners and faculty.
