This is to inform newly admitted and returning postgraduate students of the Zambian Open University (ZAOU) that the academic programmes and activities of the University, for the 2021 academic year, are running uninterrupted in accordance with the sessional dates approved by the Senate.

The closure of the Universities announced by the Government does not affect the running of our programmes because ZAOU’s teaching and learning system is based on eLearning systems such as Moodle Learning Management System, ZOOM Classroom, Astria Digital Library (ADL) and Student Record Management System (SRMS). It does not require physical or in person gathering of students for lectures.

In this regard we wish to kindly draw your attention to the following:


 1.1 The residential school classes for the newly admitted and returning postgraduate students (August intake) will be conducted online, via ZOOM, from Monday 9th August, 2021 to Friday 20th August, 2021. Research Proposal Presentations for Second Year First Semester Masters and PhD Students will be from 23rd August to 24th August, 2021.

1.2 Only registered students will have access to online lectures. The ICT support team, email: ICTsupport@zaou.ac.zm will answer students’ queries on all aspects of online teaching. 1.3 The time table for online classes will be sent to all the registered students, in due course and will be available on the Moodle Learning Management System.


2.1 The total amount of fees for the second Semester (August to December, 2021) is:  K9, 150.00 for Master’s degree programmes and K10, 050.00 for PhD programmes, which should be paid before course registration (see notes on course registration below).

2.2 Fees can be paid in instalments. An initial payment of at least 50% of the first semester fees must be paid immediately before course registration.  The remaining 50% of the fees must be paid not later than two (2) weeks before the beginning of the semester examinations in December, 2021.

2.3 Students who pay full fees (100%) for the semester before course registration will be given 5% discount.

2.4 Please indicate your names on the fees deposit form, when depositing your fees.

2.5 Students should obtain a receipt from the nearest ZAOU office upon presentation of the deposit slip, where they can also register for courses.

2.6 A scanned copy of the deposit slip should be emailed together with the course Registration Form, which can be downloaded from the ZAOU website: www.zaou.ac.zm, for those students who are not able to travel to the nearest ZAOU offices.


3.1 Newly admitted and returning students, (August intake) must register for courses before 9th August, 2021 in order to participate in the online residential school classes, which will be conducted from Monday 9th August, 2021 to Friday 20th August 2021.

3.2 Students can start registering for courses from Monday, 26th July, 2021.

3.3 Students can register online or by submitting an MS Word form available on the ZAOU website

3.4 Course registration should be done after payment of fees as prescribed above. Course registration should be done online or using the Registration Form, which can be downloaded from the ZAOU website www.zaou.ac.zm. It can also be sent on request (email: admissions@zaou.ac.zm

3.6 The completed Registration Form should be submitted to the nearest Office of the University and/or emailed to: admissions@zaou.ac.zm and copied to vivien.chongo@zaou.ac.zm and chisepo.mphaisha@zaou.ac.zm.

3.7 Schedules of courses offered under various programmes are available on the ZAOU website www.zaou.ac.zm and/or request, email admissions@zaou.ac.zm  and vivien.chongo@zaou.ac.zm.
