SCHOLARSHIPS FOR BONAFIDE STUDENTS OF THE ZAMBIAN OPEN UNIVERSITY {ZAOU}

  1. Introduction

This is to inform the prospective and current students of the Zambian Open University {ZAOU} that with effect from the second semester of the 2021 academic year the University will consider awarding scholarships (for tuition fees only) to students who successfully recruit other students. Students will have to meet specific conditions.

  1. Conditions for earning a scholarship

 In order to be considered for a scholarship the following conditions shall apply:

  • Student applying for a scholarship must be a bonafide student of the Zambian Open University.
  • An applicant for a scholarship must recruit other students, who should pay fees and register for courses in a given semester for the scholarship to be awarded.
  • Students who wish to be considered for scholarships should submit duly completed application forms of the students they are recruiting or have recruited.
  • The scholarships will be for tuition fees only. Other fees (for the library, ICT, teaching practice, research and Moot Court) will not be covered by the scholarship.
  • Scholarships will be for one semester only. Students will be considered for scholarship each semester they successfully recruit other, new students for that semester.
  • Students applying for scholarships should ensure that the students they have successfully recruited pay their fees and register for courses during the normal course registration period.
  • A student applying for a scholarship will be required to complete a scholarship application form at the time of submitting the application forms and lists of candidates he/she has recruited.
  • The University will consider the application and grant a scholarship as soon as the recruited candidates are admitted and registered for courses after paying the prescribed fees for a given semester.
  1. Level of scholarship

 The percentage or level of the scholarship (tuition fees only) shall be determined by the number of students recruited and registered for a particular semester as follows:

10 students recruited and registered 20% scholarship
15 students recruited and registered 30% scholarship
20 students recruited and registered 40% scholarship
25 students recruited and registered 50% scholarship
30 students recruited and registered 60% scholarship
35 students recruited and registered 70% scholarship
40 students recruited and registered 80% scholarship
45 students recruited and registered 90% scholarship
50 students,and above, recruited and registered 100% scholarship
  1. Process of applying and awarding scholarships

A student who wishes to recruit other students will be required to do the following:

  • Request for application forms from the Admissions office or download them from the website
  • Distribute the forms to prospective students and ask them to deposit K200 application fee into the Zambian Bank Account, details of which will be provided on request.
  • Forms completed by the prospective students will be submitted to the Admissions Office or any office of the Zambian Open University (including Regional Centres) through the student who distributed them. A list of all submitted application forms should also be attached/submitted.
  • The student distributing the application forms should ensure that they are properly filled in and that relevant copies of certificates/ qualifications supporting the application for admission are attached

NOTE: ONLY APPLICATION FORMS DISTRIBUTED AND SUBMITTED TO THE UNIVERSITY BY THE STUDENT WHO WISHES TO BE CONSIDERED FOR A SCHOLARSHIP WILL BE CONSIDERED.
