I am very delighted to welcome all to the School of Graduate Studies and Research.

Zambian Open University started offering graduate studies in 2006 with Master of Education in Literacy and Development. In 2009, the PhD programs were introduced. The University has continued to increase and diversify the graduate programmes in response to national and professional needs of our current and prospective students. Currently, the School of Graduate Studies has grown rapidly in terms of numbers of programmes and enrolments. The School now has twenty-four (24) master’s degree, twelve (12) PhD programmes and one postgraduate Diploma programme of offer.

The School of Graduate Studies and Research aims at achieving recognition not only as a leading open and distance learning graduate school, but also as a school par excellence in blended learning and online teaching prepared to adequately serve the society and the region through the provision of quality and relevant programmes.

The programmes are firmly supported by a rare and admirable mix of highly qualified and very experienced academic staff of international standing in all areas of the school’s academic activities. ZAOU boasts of professors, senior lecturers, full-time and part-time lecturers, all of whom hold a minimum of a master’s degree. 60% of the lecturers hold a PhD while the rest hold master’s degree qualifications. The School works collaboratively with all academic units in the University to deliver it programmes and carries out its day to day functions through the office of the Dean.
